Dtc 1870

I think some of you might know that I had my 98 Rodeo auto tranny rebuilt in late August of this year. A few days after the rebuild I got a CT and CE lights. Went to the shop and they stated it was 1870. The tech said it may have been a stored code since my tranny was in horrible shape before the rebuild. I just got the lights again and the code is again 1870.

I searched but only found a few threads about the code and no one has updated their problem. From my research it seems that it may be a valve body problem or TCC? All my gears shift fine, but when I get on the highway and hit 60mph there is a slight jerk. After a few times of this the lights came on. I checked the fluid and it is perfect. After a few cycles w/o hitting the highway the lights turn off. I sent the shop an email asking if they did any work in the TC and if their 36 month warranty covers repairs if necessary.

Any comments?

BTW, could this be TC shudder?

I found this article online:

Isuzu
MIL illuminated, DTC 1870 stored in PCM memory. Some 19?6-99 Troopers and Rodeos, 1998-99 Amigos and 1999 VehiCross models may turn on the MIL and store DTC 1870 in computer memory. According to Isuzu powertrain engineers, the problem is often accompanied by a blinking or steady Check Trans light, and is most likely due to insufficiently tightened converter housing-to-main case bolts. The loose bolts cause the separator plate gaskets to slip out of position. That causes an internal pressure leak, which in turn causes the fluid pressure to the lockup clutch to drop like a rock. It's this pressure loss that causes the MIL to illuminate and the DTC to set.
The fix involves tearing down the box and installing new gaskets (Part No. 8-96016-514-0) on both sides of the separator plate. Tightening the converter housing-to-main case bolts in a cross pattern to an upwardly revised torque spec of 40 ft.-lbs. prevents the gaskets from taking another walk. GM Truck
