Re: 1998 Ford Windstar transmission shudders

I have the old version of the Mobil 1 ATF, Mercon / Dextron III in my '96, which calls for Mercon.
The Mobil 1 is Synthetic. I did read that the Motorcraft Mercon V is Synthetic....and that Mercon can be found in synthetic and conventional forms.
The Mobil 1 has done great in my transmission for several years.
I have checked Alldatadiy to see if they have gotten a TSB from FORD saying different from the one that I listed.
I am not qualified to advise other than what FORD has stated, which was that a vehicle that calls for Mercon should NOT have Mercon V or a fluid that claims to meet BOTH Mercon and Mercon V specifications.....or "transmission damage may result".
Dextron, is a GM specification.
Mercon is a FORD specification.

I have read of people using dual specified fluid with success, but going away from the FORD recommendations has to be a personal choice, carefully made.
