Wow that sucks I didnt know that they could or even would pull you over for a 3rd brake light not working
but whatever. Sounds like just the bulb is burnt out. I'm guessing you dont want to change it on your own correct?? then I would suggest taking it to either the dealership (I know you dont want to) or possibly a friend or a automotive shop. I know there is a custom car shop by me that will replace burnt out bulbs so if there are any by you you might want to try there.
