It's likely a faulty or failing alternator rather than a battery problem. The transmission is going into 'limp mode' because it isn't getting the required voltage. The dash warning lights coming on are another common symptom of a faulty alternator. When replacing the alternator, purchase an OEM or Bosch unit. Most auto parts store units don't last and may be inadequate from the start.
