I solved my problem. Once I installed a new sending unit, the P1627 code reset and didn't come back. Also the CEL stayed off and the cooling fan now works correct.
One note that other Amigo owners may need to be aware of. I purchased fuel sending unit (SU) P/N 8-25232-011-0 direct from a dealer here in Dallas. The wiring leads going from the float arm/sending unit were too short to plug into the assembly at the top. I had to disassemly the SU's and use the old wiring harness and resistor board with the new float arm and finger assembly. Seems to work fine but a shame that a Isuzu can't get a $60 part right.
