On some cars it's easier to leave the manifolds attached to the head while you remove the head from the car. N/A VW diesels being one. Dunno about Metros though.

Many head bolts are stretch bolts or TTY Torque To Yeild. After torqing them, you turn an additional 90 degrees or more to reach the final clamping force.
