Re: removing hand brake

First let me tell you what I tell anyone who wnats to work on their own car, buy a service manual, and the haynes will work for most repairs and it is inexpensive.

OK you first need to remove center console (two screws in bottom of cup holders and four screws in bottom of console and also take the gearshift knob off).

Next: lower parking brake handle (be careful working on the calbles as there is a clock spring pre-loaded to 20 lbs ft of torque, you need to start by pulling the parking brake cables to the rear until you can insert a 3/16 drill bit or small screwdriver all the way through the parking brake lever mechanism) release both parking brake cables from the equalizer, unplug electrical connector ground from brake warning light switch, remove nuit/s attaching parking brake lever assembly from center console.

If you had a Haynes, all of this and the pictures as well would be right in front of you.
