I agree with the 350 comment. 305 is snappy and tough, but not "powerful".

If you must stick with 305, forget the combination you described. "Old school". Get Performer, a well-built Q-Jet, Comp DE (Dual Energy) cam in the 206/212 range, Hooker headers, recurved HEI, "comp" valve grind, 9.5:1 compression, and maybe a set of Magnum roller-tipped rockers. Good fuel economy and good torque to about 4,500 RPM. It will make your car feel a lot stronger than it does now!
