I also have the 96 lx. I bought my car with 94k on it, it now has 219k. I was told when I bought the car that the timing belt was just replaced. I didnt change the timing until 217k (Would not recomend) I think they recomend changing it at about 90k. When I got it done the Tech told me that balancing belt was just sitting inside the belt the plastic cover. He replaced it for me and told me that the engine would run a lot smoother, he wasnt kiding. usually you could feel the engine vibrating through the steering wheel, now its smooth. Check the spark plugs and wires and distributer.
