Is your 2000 a GTP, SE or GT?

Thats called fuel pump prime. It does it for two seconds. Your 2000 should sound similar to your '97 GTP.

If you have access to an automotive fuel pressure tester, you can test fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is in spec. That way you test fuel pump, lines, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator.

These type problems are either ignition or fuel related. Another possibility if it is a spark problem would be the crank position sensor. But since the fuel pump doesn't sound right that would be the most likely culprit.

We have plenty of old posts on how to replace the fuel pump assembly.
