Sounds like you may not have the filter seated properly in the case, and it may be sucking air there. Since you mentioned it shifting funny, or a bit stiff as you said, you might want to drop the pan again and check it. If you cleaned everything good, and use a clean container, you can save the fluid. You can filter it thru coffee filters to be sure it dont have any trash in it.
