It's obvious that you guys have never ridden sport bikes seriously.
The GSX1000 only beats the R1 on laptimes by fractions of seconds. These bikes stock are so fast and tweaked it is virtually impossible for normal riders to be able ride the bike to the max. Basically these bikes go as fast as the rider can.

8/100ths of a second that big of a difference? or maybe it is the 1mph top end over the R1.
I have ridden both bikes and the comfortability level of the R1 is much better then then the 1000. You ride ON the GSX, you ride IN the R1. Plus if you are over 5'10" the gixxer will be very hard to ride.
Oh, the R1 looks way better anyway
