Rather than true flat black (like primer or barbecue paint), look for semi-gloss, semi-flat or "satin" black. Shoot a test panel and see which comes closest to what you want. The factory stuff held up better than real flat black.

The late 70's Camaro special editions had an interesting twist. The hood was almost true flat black and the roof was a slightly glossier "flat" black. I don't know why but they used two different shades ("shines?"), maybe to keep the cabin from heating up in the sun?
