The clues are in your question: "slowly release the accelerator pedal.......Slightly pushing down on the accelerator ..."
sounds like the TPS to me...after it heats up sounds like the O2 sensor is taking over...
I'd check the TPS, it won't cost you anything but a little elbow grease and time.
