I say, as long as you haven't tried to run it with the gas in the tank, if you syphon out the contents (all of them) you should be okay.
Just add fresh fuel (diesel!) to the tank and let her go. Just don't run the motor with no fuel, cause if get air into the line, you'll have to bleed the injectors and that can be a pain in the ass.
