Exactly what where is disconnected? Im hoping youre not saying that your cv came apart and you are driving around missing a half shaft and a loose peice of steel is waiting to fall from your front diff.

As far as the noise while shifting into reverse I would ask this: Have you looked at your engine mounts lately? Im guessing one of the two if not both is totally ripped in two peices and the motor bangs when you put it in reverse.
Just get a jack under the harmonic balancer with a board on it and lift er up a little. If the motor mounts are intact the whole front of the truck will start to lift. If its a motor mount or two it will be very evident where the fault lies.

Now if you do have a bad motor mount post here and myself or someone else here who has done it will explain all you will need to know.

Relax every part of that truck can be fixed. It just takes time and money.
