From what you are describing it sounds like you have a few problems. To answer your questions. If you are refering to the switch the tells the car that the door is closed/open, those are located on the door jam, so there is no need to even work with the door. you can visually inspect each one and see if one looks broken, as well as press it in and out and see if you get some type of results.
