I've done some tests on my Tahoe and I discoverd that if I remove the box of air air filter I could also lost 40 HP. The reason is simple: the air/fuel ratio becames too small (there is too much fuel). And that because the mass air flow sensor estimates too much air. Now, someone can tell me what happens when you bolt a cold air kit without tuning the processor? Thank you
