basically you can tell if the valves are bent just by the simple sound of compression. first check make sure he has the timing belt on correctly (not on the wrong stoke). if that is good then, yeah, pull the head the valves are bad. i am not sure abour the mpfi manifolds but i beleive there is one bolt on the bottom side of the manifold connected to a bracket. obviously un screw that. leave the intake manifold on. take the exhaust manifold off. disconnect all related wiring and hoses. then take out the head bolts and it should come off. if it doesn't come of you may need to pry it a little cus it may be a little stuck but use your head if it isn't coming off with a little bit of prying something is still holding it on. good luck if you need more help.. reply
