Try the 3-key turn trick. Turn the key like this:

OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON (within about 5 seconds)

Then watch the check engine light. It should flash 2-digit numbers at you

For example:
FLASH PAUSE FLASH-FLASH = 12
(long pause)
FLASH-FLASH-FLASH-FLASH-FLASH PAUSE FLASH-FLASH-FLASH-FLASH-FLASH = 55
