Re: Dorman Kit for P0171 P0174 TSB Valve Cover and Isolator Bolts
I would appreciate that contact from Dorman.
The valve cover has basically been modified. They attached a baffle plate to shield the oil from the PCV opening. They also have different mounting bolt setup with built in washers and seals--not necessary, but a nice feature. I did read about someone who was able to do the modifications himself (BATAUTO.com). It doesn't seem difficult, but remember the valve cover seems to be the major source of the major problem. Maybe if Ford didn't screw this up you wouldn't need oil resistant manifold bolts: bad setup all the way around.
Also, the kit comes with a PCV valve which seems kind of chinsy. I will replace with Motorcraft. Moral of the story: buyer beware. Keep in mind that all of the parts in the kit are Chinese made--not Fel-Pro. If I was to do all over again (which I might be) I would go to Ford for the parts and put a little more pressure on them to help with costs because this seems to be an epidemic.
