The most likly problem is a worn or bent linkage part or a worn shifter fork. It could also be something else. The linkage for the MGB transmission in inside the remote control housing. There is no adjustment, you replace the worn or damaged parts. The transmission will have to be removed for repair. If you don't have an overdrive transmission it is probably best to locate a replacement, there is no big demand for them and they usually sell cheap. Try to find one near you and pick it up as shipping would be very expensive, they are heavy.
