If you have a multimeter; test the pin/socket that plugs into your receiver. Make sure BOTH the switched 6v and the constant 6v wires are getting juice when the key is turned.

Sounds like the constant 6v is on (security light) but the switched 6v is not.

If you still have the pontiac; can you throw it back in there and see if it works? Or did you cut the wiring harness out of the pontiac and re-attach it to the Chevy?
