just to point out the physics of accelerating vs constant speed.
F=ma
Force = mass * acceleration
W=F*d
work = force * distance
so when you accelerate you have to exert a force, when done over a distance, this equals work. you also have to fight wind resistance and internal friction.
at a constant speed the only force your car has to produce is the force required to fight wind resistance and internal friction.
as you can see, the force required to go at a constant speed is much less than the force required to accelerate.
