The car's "redline" is just an imaginary number. It's just telling you that the ECU will give you another 500 rpm to shift before it engages the fuel cutoff and prevents the engine from revving any higher to prevent engine damage. Meaning you're not supposed "bounce off redline" because it's just there to help idiot proof your engine. Basically you would have to be an idiot to rev your car to redline often and expect it to last very long.

If the car is a low mileage car, it won't last beyond 100,000 miles and if it has 240,000 miles, I can garautee you it wasn't by driving it like that.
