Freakray knows his stuff, so I'm sure he's giving you good advice.
None the less I'd personally be tempted to remove the clear part if at all possible. That way no risk of CSC damage and less risk of you scratching the s**t out of it
If it's not CA-ed in place you can probably "pop" it out with the freezer method.
