My firend has that problem with his 96 2.3L. He busted where the small wire runs to the starter. Not sure what, I didn't do it
. It's only makes an intermittent connection and when he turns the key sometimes, all he gets is a single 'CLICK'. 'CLICK'ing it few times usually gets it working again. This does this hot or cold, so I am not sure if this is relevant. It's something to check out though.
