Okay, These types of races are wierd. I also don't likethese races because they are fixed. What I mean is that th Indy car weighs maybe 1500 pounds or less, The CF-18 weighs 23, 050 Lbs. Also the indy cars are biult to accelerate in short amounts of time, planes are designed to go faster but over more time. The plane also has to take-off whcih puts it at another disadvantage. If you look at the stats though, the CF-18 kicks Ass.
CF-18 Hornet: Twin General Electric F404-GE-400 Turbofans rated at 10,600 Lb. and 15,800 Lb. with afterburner. That translates into 31,600 HP with full afterburner, The Indy car could be smoked! It should have too, the top speed as stated is Mach 1.8 or 1,190 MPH. The Indy car is nothing.
Indy Car: 850 HP (Most likely 10 Cylinder)engine. This car is good but the CF-18 has a way better. HP-LB ratio. Top Speed= 230 MPH.
I don't think that Indy cars are bad, they are top cars in there class, but I don't like it when planes are obviously disadvantaged to impress the crowd. And no you couldn't lean for the plane smoking the car because the sonic boom from breaking the sound would make everybody deaf. All in all it was a cool movie. I've seen better though. Shockwave Jet truck vs: An already moving Biplane, the plane won, barely.
