All fixed-
I drained the tank, along with a beer, took the pump/sending unit out, and saw that there weren’t any wear marks from the sliding contact on the potentiometer's pickups. I bent the float arm several times while installing it to get the right level of “empty,” then put a gallon back in. It’s right between the white and red line now, so “empty” has a 30 mile reserve. Sweet!
