THis is just a guess on my part but similar honeycombs are used on small windtunnels to convert the airflow to a laminar flow. Think of the air flow from a fan, it rotates as it moves. by running it thru the honeycomb you break up the rotating air mass into smaller rotating masses that more simulate a straight line flow. and I will be the first to say that I have no idea why that is important to a MAF.
