As another option (and quite a bit cheaper) there are rocker arms the have a higher ration (i assume) than the stock ones that are currently in my truck right now. If i swap out the stock 1.5 rockers and swap in the aftermarket 1.7 rockers i know that will give me the effect of having a bigger cam, but the same duration.
Will this give me more low end grunt just like a 4x4 cam or is this gonna be top end power?

It will give more top-end power and lose some low end and lose some mpg. Lots of clearance issues (like you mentioned) to check, but a very easy swap when compared to a cam swap. Your effective duration will also come up too.
