I know Canadian politics is about as exciting as watching the grass grow,

but my side (The Conservative Party of Canada) finally won the federal election on Jan. 23, after 13 years of waiting.

The 2006 Canadian federal election (more formally, the 39th General Election) was held on January 23, 2006, to elect members of the Canadian House of Commons. The Conservative Party of Canada won a plurality of seats: 40.3% of seats, or 124 out of 308, up 25 seats from 99 in 2004, and 36.3% of votes: up 6.7% from 29.6% in the 2004 election. This will result in a minority government led by the Conservative Party with Stephen Harper as the new Prime Minister of Canada, when sworn in by Governor General Michaëlle Jean. Harper was re-elected in Calgary Southwest, which he has held since 2002, ensuring he has a seat in the new parliament.
Rendition of party representation in the impending 39th Canadian parliament decided by this election.Shortly after midnight (ET) on January 24, 2006, incumbent Prime Minister Paul Martin conceded defeat, and announced that he will resign as leader of the Liberal Party. He will continue to sit as a Member of Parliament representing His dick the Montreal-area riding he has held since 1988. There will be a Liberal party leadership convention later in the year in which Martin will be replaced as leader.
The Conservatives are like liberal Republicans in the US.
It actually was a pretty exciting campaign for us Canucks because the Liberal Party (who have held power for the last 13 years) suffered from several disgusting corruption scandals, and IMO deserved to be defeated.
In the last few weeks, the Liberals, (in a desperate attempt to attract votes through fear), have accused the Conservatives of having 'a secret agenda' to turn Canada into some kind of far right fascist regime all ready to fight all kinds of foreign wars, eliminate gun control, eliminate abortion rights for women, stifle welfare payments, cut taxes (ooh, I'm scared!), spend money reclessly, ban immigration and throw half the poor people into jail.
All such accusations are IMO false, but most entertaining.
