Re: Flywheel and starter problem?
It is highly possible that both the starter and flywheel are bad. It is not likely that trying to start the car when it is already started once or twice would cause this. What has probably happened is the starter began to go bad and when it started to go bad it would no longer fully engage the flywheel. If it doesn't fully engage the flywheel you will hear the screeching that you here when you try to start a car that is already running. The starter malfunction has probably caused a few teeth on the flywheel ring gear to be broken or at least worn. The dealer and other mechanics you've seen just want to make sure if they fix this for you, you won't be back again next year for the exact same problem. If they had taken a few seconds to explain this to you you would probably had it fixed at the first place you took your car to. This is where I think Service managers and mechanics do themselves a disservice, they think people are too dumb to fully explain why extra parts need to be replaced when it seems like only the starter is bad.
