Sometimes the computer for the remote trunk release mechanism malfunctions and completes the circuit continuously - I had the same problem, so I just disconnected the wires for my remote trunk pop and just use the button inside the car - but my remote is aftermarket. I'm not sure about the wiring for the factory trunk release.
It does sound like though, that the "brain" for your trunk release has defected.
