2)Most definatley the front and rear seals, all SBC motors leak over time. If they had the tryanny out, then would have the opportune time. The rear can be done with the trans in (depending on type of seal the motor uses) but it's not fun.
3)You mean during bulb check, the gauge pegs out into the cluster? Also about as common as the oil leak. First make sure your wiring from the sender is ok, sender is the one between cylinders 1 and 3. If that checks out what I've done is pull the dash out, mount a small paper clip and descretely bend it over the top of the guage to act as a stop. A little black sharpe and looks factory and works, you just need to put it right before the needle would get stuck other wise it may off set the guage.
