If it were me, I'd jack it up and try to pull it down and see if the shock gives. The wheel/shock assembly also rotates around the rear A-Arm...or whatever it's called for this car(maybe trailing arm). I'd also spray some type of lube and make sure this isn't hanging up. Likely that the weight of the wheel/tire would be much more that would cause this to hang up. Finally, its pretty easy to swap out rear shocks. They arent that expensive either. Buy a new set for $80(not dealer of course..that would be much more $$$) and put them in.
