When I am traveling at slow speeds (25 mph, or lower) or stopped at a redlight or stop sign the cars voltage drops down to about 10 (estimate), right before the orange zone on the voltage gauge. When this happens the lights dim and the heater blower motor slows considerably. Now keep in mind the idle of car doesn't change when this happens nor has the cars idle speed changed in the last year. It idles between 500-600 and has for the last year. This problem has just developed over the last couple months. Now as soon as i step on the gas the voltage goes right back up to 14 and stays there as long as i'm on the accelerator or coasting at a speed higher than 25-30. Now the battery is brand new (2 months old) and the alternator is about 4 years old. I tested the voltage out of the alternator and it is 14.6, i believe that is what it is suppose to be. Anybody got any suggestions???

Now the car has a second problem, i do not know if it could be a factor in the first problem or not. This problem isn't new though and i know its been there for at least the last 2 years. (Before i was the owner) The ECM is throwing a code of EGR Failure. I replaced the EGR valve and the check engine light still comes on. There are several factors in the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system and after looking over the car really good i noticed the vacumm lines are shot! So as soon as it warms up i'm gonna replace them all and hope it fixes the problem of the check engine light being on. Now could this effect the first problem???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Mike
vaccum leak can cause that, if it still does it after that post again.
