I don't blame you for not wanting to go the BFH route, I wouldn't either. Does your 350 have an HEI distributor? If so that may be your only problem. You need to use a small cap distributor like what originally came on the V-8's before Chevy switched to HEI in 1975. You can buy electronic units like this or convert a points distributor over with a Pertronix kit or even just run the points.
I'm not sure I understand your drivetrain/trans question. Does the car have a 350 turbo now and you want to know if it will work with the 8? If so then yes.
