In chapter #1, (Tune-up and routine maintenance) it shows opening the air filter housing "in-place" to change the air filter. I have never had good luck changing the air filter this way.
In chapter #4, (Fuel and exhaust systems) it shows "air cleaner housing - removal and installation" (section 9). Complete with a photo, it describes removing the entire housing ....just like the posters above describe. A much easier way to get to the air filter and do a good job reassembling.
