89 TBI got a couple questions
Alright first off, I bought my 89 camaro 305 tbi, from an older woman that bought it new. She had every recipt, so a sweet buy. Anyways, she had told me there was a new computer in it, but the check engine light flashes really fast, like it's retarded or something. So I took the computer out and was gonna see if they put the prom chip in wrong, and to my suprise there wasn't one in there. So to my question, what is the difference in having the chip and not having one. I know it can't be good, because it sets everything to default, just wondering how my gas mileage will change when I get my chip for it, I get around 180mi. to a tank of gas, and my idle sux, along with cold start. My next question is about a 86 Dodge Daytona 2.5 tbi non-turbo.
I know this is the camaro forum, but the daytona forum is no help. So I got the car, had a real ruff idle and miss. Took it to the shop and he narrowed it down to 3 things: ECM - power module, ECM - logic module, and a clogged cat converter. The symptoms are, gas soaked plugs, excessive gas fumes and black smoke, and the only way to start it is to clean the plugs and hold the gas pedal to the floor and it will run for bout 1 min. tops. So I have replace power module, map sensor, and plugs and wires. I have got to figure this out, please help me on this one, thanks, and oh yea compression is good, no head gasket problems, and no vaccum leaks. Thanks again.
