Fine grit in clear coat - how to remove?

Posted this also in the exterior section but it maybe more of a detailing question:
Had a shop do a complete re-paint, (red over red) had to move out of state with no time to have them "buff out" trash in the clear coat so now I'm stuck with doing it myself. Paint has had plenty of time to cure now, but I need to know what to use. This is dust/grit actually embedded in the clearcoat, not dirt deposited after the clear coat dried. It is not large but it definitely is rough as you rub your hand over it. This is a Jeep that will next get woodgrain vinyl so I want it to be smooth before I install it. I read about clay but am not sure if it will remove embedded material.
