I'm not crazy for the 4 rear wheels but it maks for better towing.

This will be my first Deisel engine outside the military, I know gas engines, but not Deisels.

Can you tell me the pros and cons?

either ford or dodge head to wallyworld and get the diesel treatment, you can get it in gallon jug and just add per instructions every tank, this will help the pump and other systems with lubrication and even cuts down on all the black smoke that you see some pumping out when under acceleration. they do cost a lot more to do oil changes on also as they hold 12 quarts of diesel oil and stick with better oil filters, have heard stories of the cheaper ones getting the insides sucked into the engine thus a new engine. you can get a 3500 single rear also, have seen a few of them. if you get on ebay you can get a deal on multiple oil filters and even your diesel filter, this needs to be changed regularly and if not does affect your mpg. things that will help your diesel perform better and better mpg would be a bully dog or larger exhaust system, usually in a 5 inch pipe variety, again have heard of the cheaper mufflers being blown apart and get a open air filter like the K&N FIPK.
