Corroded brake light fuse or connector. Find the FUSE, measure voltage on both sides, if 12V or more, problem is elsewhere. If under 12V on BOTH sides of fuse, problem is in power supply TO fuse block. If lower on one side than other, problem is corroded fuse/terminals.

You CAN run a new wire from battery to brake switch, just make SURE you fuse it.
