96 grand am won't start

I need some help i have a 96 grand am that has proved to be the world's biggest money pit...About 3 wks ago the transmission went out on me...so i found another transmission for $200 dollars and put it in... After i got the new tranny in i went to start the car and it wont start. This car has a bad history with me. About 40,000 miles ago the speedo meter quit working so i bought one out of the junk yard and put it in.. But with any grand am after 96 you have to have the brain of the car reprogramed so it will accept the new speedo meter and start. Ever since i put the new gauge in sometimes the theft light comes on and it wont start i have to shut the key off and then try again. I have found that the car actually has 2 codes in the brain and sometimes it picks up the other code. I dont want to pay $50 to have it reprogrammed again. So i was just curious if anyone has ever had this problem. I have hooked up all wires and grounds to the new tranny. The checked the fuel rail and it is getting fuel. I have never had a car in the shop and never will so that is out of the question. But i have checked everything and this a new situation for me. So until i can get the money pit back on the road. I will continue to drive my ol` reliable 92` grand am with 270,000 miles on it.
