I Don't say Revell are bad, but if you want good result, you have to have some experience since it have many problem. Tamiya, if you take your time and don't hand brush the body, you will end with a very acceptable model in your first try...
Oh, and taking time don't mean doing the kit in a weekend A Kit should take near 2 weeks or more with a bit of work every day. (2 hours by day)

I agree... Take your time, spray the body and with a Tamiya kit it's going to look pretty decent if you don't rush and do the best you can. It's about having fun, you don't want to be worrying about ride, fitment etc.. Tamiya kits are precise. The kits from around 1999 onwards have Windows Masks, and I think the extra 5 - 10 bucks is well worth it.
Stay away from models with complex decal schemes.. The look nice on the box but decals are a learned skill.. Takes time.. The Calsonic Skylines are OK, but the Xnavia (Spelling..??) are much harder...
I'd get a Z Tune or S2000... Really good models to start out with.. Or a modena 360.. That's not too bad..
