The ball joints and front suspension bushings are the weak points on the front suspension. Usually engine problems are mostly the composite intake cracking, DPFE sensors, and MAF sensors.
The 200 amp alternator was not commonly available until 2003 or 2003 on most CVPI's. 97's had a 130 amp stock.
Yes it is OBDII compliant.
If the vehicle has had good routine maintenance it should be reliable for quite a while. Good luck.
