What you describe is normal behaviour; every aspect of it when T-case in 4wd is relevant of T-case engaging front wheels...so from all of that I see no wrong.
Now the heat thing is something else. SO....
HOwever, : "Wheel will turn by hand but-not-turn-without-me-turning-it. It wont free spin more than a 1/4 rev" I'm not sure what it means...?!?...explain
