I managed to get the old filter off and had no spewing,just some drippage.
No leaks and car runs fine!

The lines end in a flare with little holes in it, the plastic clip inside has to be disengaged and the fuel line slips off the filter.

There's lots of different ways to do it, but I've always had no problem just doing them with my fingers.

I just put my fingers over the holes and squeeze real tight and push the fitting towards the filter, and you feel it unlock, then pull the line off.

My '97 had one quick release and one threaded fitting (brilliant!) The threaded (metal) side of the line had an o-ring on it that leaked real bad when it went back together. Had to go get a new one.
