The theft deterrent system light was blinking. The owners manual said to leave the ignition key on for 10 minutes till it goes out, then turn the key off before starting. viola- it worked.
Now the question is why that happened.... would the wrong key do it? I'm not going to test that theory.

This has been a problem for many, many different threads are in this forum on the problem. It's happened to me on a couple of occasions on my '01 model. Last time was about six months ago, no rhyme or reason to when it happens.
Someone has posted that there is a toggle switch to turn off the passive theft system, but I have not confirmed this.
