mom, did you buy a repair manual for him? If not it may will probably pay for itself off this job alone. Plus, he seems motivated enough to continue doing his own repairs. I'm sure it would make a good gift for him. I'm sorry I can not give you more advice, there is a lot involved with the clutch (example: what engine is it?) and it would be nearly impossible to walk him through the job online. Good luck.
